Male to female ratio at work

I just learned that there are 5.26 men for each woman where I work. This is not the average for the whole company, just for the building I’m at. For the whole company the numbers are slightly (but not much) more balanced.
Keep in mind that I work in the Research and Development building. No HR, [...]

French press surprise

I’m a huge fan of Bodum’s French Press coffee mug. In a few minutes you make a large cup of freshly pressed coffee with minimal work and minimal dishes. I actually own two, one for work, and one for  home.
So I highly recommend it to my coffee drinking colleagues. One of them, Eli Seidner, [...]

As seen in the kitchennette

Now that the Coffice is gone, I’m back to the same kitchennette meant for mere mortal coffee drinkers. I found this sign there:
Consider this the final Coffice-related post.

The Coffice is no more

In a bout of corporate arm-wrestling and a defeat to all coffee-loving humans, the Coffice must be vacated by the end of the week. It seems like people in places higher than me think that the space can be better used to accommodate an engineer as opposed to an electrical stove, a pot, and some [...]

Piss a Colombian off

Turkish coffee

After a heavy lunch of Indian food it’s hard to stay awake. Nothing keeps you going like a cup (or two) of delicious Elite turkish coffee prepared in the newly set up coffee office: “The Coffice” with the tools I recently imported.
Marvelous.

It’s gonna be one of those days

It’s not even 9:00 AM yet and I already spilled a big mug full of coffee all over my office and myself. Damage was mostly contained and all equipment was spared. The only thing that worries me is the smell that may be left behind. Will it stay or will it go?
This has brought me [...]

NI Latin-American Picnic

National Instruments Latin-American Picnic (by Jaramillo)
(gigantic version here)
On Saturday, all (ok, not everyone made it) Latin-American employees of National Instruments got together for a little and absolutely non-official get together complete with BBQ’ing, kite-flying, high performance beach volleyball, and more.
I thought I already knew everyone, or at least a large majority… but I actually [...]

The strange case of the missing oats

For years I’ve kept a big thing of Old Fashioned Quaker Oats in the kitchen on my floor, at work. Some people take the liberty of taking some oatmeal, sure. That’s ok with me. They sell this huge box at Costco for $5 dollars that will last me for months. It’s so cheap I’m seriously [...]

Lost

No. Not the TV Show.
Like every damn year, we make it to the playoffs only to lose on the next game. It’s like Mexico in the World Cup. And I feel like I was run over by a herd of dewbacks (wow, that reference made me even less appealing to women – better shut up [...]
