I just had a Flake today (I'm slow, so while they are sold all over Canada, I just tasted one today). It wasn't flaky at all. It was all packed firmly, and behaved like a regular chocolate bar. I can see how it was poured to be like a mekupelet, but it was too dense. no crumbling whatever!!!

I'll try again later. Maybe I just got a bad bar, but I'm not impressed at all!!! The taste was ok, but no crumbling or flaking at all!!!

On 10/16/09, we had our own taste test in New York for the two chocolate treats. we had 6 testers. Overall, the results were Mekupelet: 5 votes, Flake 1 vote.

Mekupelet tasted more sweet - more milk and sugar. Flake tasted more like compressed cocoa powder. Flake was definitely more flakey but that wasn't enough for the team. We tested on appearance, texture, flakiness, taste, and overall.

We appreciate the focus on this most important culinary debate.

Look forward to more taste offs across the world!!!

In my opinion the flake loses major points not only on texture (as you mentioned) but also in a category you forgot -- finish. The flake has a terrible aftertaste reminiscent of the plastic wrapper. Mekupelet leaves only a creamy sweet finish.

I think you conviniently forgot that the 5 judges (excluding you) were specifically asked which chocolate they liked better and Flake won 3 to 2. I figured I should add in this "slight" detail to your report.
